Legendary country stars Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks were among the big names to be recognised at the 50th annual Country Music Awards.
Parton was lauded with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, while Brooks took home the top award Entertainer of the Year, presented by Taylor Swift.
The 9 to 5 singer joked as she accepted her award, saying: "I would cry, but I didn't want to mess up my eyelashes."
Kenny Chesney was given the special Pinnacle Award, marking only the third time the honour has ever been presented.
Female vocalist of the year went to Carrie Underwood, her fourth win in the category.
After blurting thanks to the many legends in attendance, Underwood was at a loss for words.
She said: "I've just become suddenly stupid."
Tapping into her Southern roots, pop-R&B queen Beyonce hammered out a thumping performance of Daddy Lessons from her latest album Lemonade at the show on Wednesday night.
Working a glittering, beaded gown, the Texas-born star was accompanied by the Dixie Chicks for the performance, which was broadcast live from Nashville on ABC
